I’m a big believer in the saying “Everything happens for a reason” although this is not always easy to swallow, it is true. Most of you know that my sister Erika works at Scrapbooks etc (her home away from home). It is pretty normal for us to talk on the phone most days on her way to or from work (sometimes bothJ). A few weeks ago she mentioned that a lady (Becky) had been into her work and that she was making bereavement boxes. She has a daughter (Delanee) that had passed away several years ago as an infant and in her memory makes these boxes for a hospital for those going through the same difficult time. She mentioned that she does this several times a year about 40 boxes each time for just one hospital, and that she was there getting supplies to decorate the boxes. She also mentioned that it was her dream to eventually do this on a broader level helping even more in their time of need.
Erika and I talked about how we thought this was something we really wanted to get involved in helping with. So within a few days of each other we went to the blog dedicated to DeLanee. Needless to say we both found ourselves completely touched and crying. To read this touching story visit www.inmemoryofanangel.blogspot.com it is also linked to my blog at the bottom and don’t forget the tissues. (Make sure to start from the beginning April 2008)
At Banner Desert where Becky currently donates these boxes there are 10-15 infant deaths a month. I was blown away because this is just one hospital. Originally Becky started donating once a year on DeLanee’s birthday, but as I mentioned she now does it several times a year. These boxes contain items such as disposable cameras, candy, Kleenex, brag books, a journal and pen, “Forget Me Not” seeds, and a CD with music.
After Erika, Becky and I talked, I think we all knew that Erika meeting Becky was ment to be, and us taking part in this amazing charity is a wonderful opportunity to help others.
